Background
The food security has been a major concern and attracting interests globally in these years, and various kinds of research and developments have been conducted up to now. This food security is a subject with multifaceted and complicated relationships among many factors. Our research focus is on both “availability” and “stability” according to the definition of the food security set by FAO. Our research in line of “availability” is for increase of agricultural production and improvement of agricultural production system which should also consider the side of environmental conservation. “Stability”, on the other hand, in our research is for aiming at development and improvement of scheme for sustainable agricultural production as adaptation to climate change and natural disasters.
For realizing the food availability and stability, training and education to people concerned in agriculture is quite important. In other word, people are the key for continuous improvement and keeping the sustainability. So, in our laboratory, activity of both research and education is to be conducted at the same time like two wheels of cars to move ahead together.
In addition, the food security is quite international subject meaning that the research and implementation activities have to be global. So, variety of people from various countries should be invited to work together for creating valuable research and also implementing of the research results.
With the above background, as an example of our international activity, Chiba University and Udayana University in Bali of Indonesia established a research and education center named "Center on Food Availability for Sustainable Improvement" ( "CFASI" ) in March, 2014.
