Activity
Activity of our laboratory can be well outlined through introduction of CFASI.
CFASI is a research and education center which aims at conducting research and education at the same time for contribution to realization of the food security. The positioning of research and implementation to be made in CFASI can be illustrated in the following figure.
CFASI stands on both fields of "Food Production" and "Environment". One hand of CFASI has "Spatial information" such as satellite data and also various "models" for analysis of the spatial information. On the other hand, it catches "Social needs” relating to the food security. Activity of CFASI is to try to find out possible solutions for satisfying "Social needs" while utilizing these "models" and "spatial information". In other words, preparation of "Prescription", like a doctor writes a prescription to a patient, or recommendations for satisfying the social needs is an important outcome of the activity.
Implementation on basis of the developed solutions and the prepared prescription is another key activity for confirmation of the value of such solutions and prescriptions and also trying to make improvement for better solutions.
"Capacity development" is to provide education to people which is essential for sustainable food production and agricultural system.
This is a basic position where CFASI stands.
It is expected that CFASI could play a key role actively in many different fields in the agriculture. The illustration below shows some of such fields.
The fields which CFASI hopes to cover in the future would diverge into many different areas, but, CFASI will add new fields "one by one". This is our policy.
